Thinking Psychoanalytically About Organizations with Yiannis Gabriel

Renowned psychoanalytic author and academic Yiannis Gabriel leading two events in Toronto on unconscious dynamics in teams and organizations

Renowned psychoanalytic author and academic Yiannis Gabriel will be leading two events in Toronto focused on unconscious dynamics in teams and organizations. These sessions invite reflection on issues of difference and otherness in organizational contexts. Why are some decisions made? Why do other issues just seem to disappear into thin air? How do these things happen? What can you do? If you want to think about unconscious dynamics in groups that affect organizations, join us for these events:

Nov. 1st at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society (4:00 - 5:30) Dr. Yiannis Gabriel will atalk about the 'practice of suspicion' in studying organizations or institutions 'psychoanalytically'. You will get a chance to meet and talk with analysts, consultants, senior leaders of organizations, who are just as curious about workplace dynamics and disasters as you are. A reception follows from 5:30-7:00.

Nov. 2nd at Hart House, University of Toronto (9:00 - 5:00). Dr. Gabriel will be talking about 'desire and difference in organizations - when everyone cannot be special, not can everyone be the same'. There will be opportunities for small group discussions for exploring your own 'difference questions' and reflections.

You can register online here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/ispso-north-american-regional-meeting-tickets-64002715846?aff=Savemyseat

How Enhancing Your Vocal Tonality Can Improve Your Coaching Impact

As a master NLP Practitioner, trained by NLP co-founder Dr. Richard Bandler, I have experienced better results with my clients when zeroing in on tonality and voice impact. As the saying goes, “It’s not just what you say, but how you say it!” When we coach our clients, confidence, authority and energy all convey a synergistic message.

As well, as a professional musician, my flute has been an extension of my voice for over four decades. And I’ve learned that our words are like music: instead of notes on a page, our words carry messages of varying emotions.

Music performance is a transferrable skill: posture, correct diaphragmatic breathing, awareness of resonating chambers in the body and a positive mental attitude all combine to create a successful outcome.

Key Points for Vocal Impact and Confidence:

1. Breathe deeply, not shallowly

2. Sit at the edge of the chair

3. Maintain positive attitude

4. Eye Contact (even on Skype!)

5. Keep face level and not raised or lowered

6. Smile and stay open

7. Be curious and encourage curiosity

Laura Nashman is an NLP Specialist, helping coaches and clients fine-tune their expertise and goals. As a flutist, she has made over 12 CDs (www.spa-la-la.com). Her experience as a voice actor for audiobooks includes work with Harvard Business Review, Wiley and Son’s, Simon and Shuster, and more. She is available to record audiobooks and services for coaches, authors and speakers. lauranashman@rogers.com.
